When it comes to grilling on the Bar-B-Q, no one was allowed to touch my uncle’s Weber Performer grill. He was the only one that was allowed to get anywhere near it. He took much pride in manning the grill – any family get together, always had him flipping burgers and rolling the smokies over. It didn’t take much convincing for us to get him to start up the grill for any occasion, even in all kinds of weather. I have many memories of Uncle Bob outside while one of us kids stood holding the umbrella so that he didn’t get wet.
I remember one time that we were at the beach house – someone had come to visit that didn’t know that my uncle didn’t like his position to be usurped when it came to grilling, who tried to grill a steak. It did not go very well and my uncle gave the guy the evil eye for the rest of the night – of course, this was over his grill!
